A Distinctly Different Retirement Community
Augsburg Lutheran Home is a non-profit continuing care retirement community providing Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Long Term Care to seniors. Situated on a 52-acre campus in the Lochearn area of Baltimore County, Augsburg has been serving the needs of the elderly for over 100 years. Augsburg is accredited by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission, sponsored by the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. Accreditation by the CCAC indicates that Augsburg has been carefully evaluated and meets standards of excellence agreed upon by continuing care professionals.
Independent Living
Built in 1986, Augsburg Lutheran Village has a total of 138 apartments in eight garden-style buildings and three multi-story buildings. Apartments range in size from studio to two bedroom extra large models. Every unit has an emergency call system, providing the resident with quick access to necessary medical help in case of an emergency. Security is provided 24 hours a day.
Residents enjoy the privacy of their own home with none of the hassles or maintenance associated with home ownership. The main meal each day is served in a formal dining room or casual café where residents select from well-planned menus. The café is also open for lunch. All units are connected to each other with an inside walkway providing easy access to the Town Center, Café, Wellness Suite, Beauty Salon, Fitness Room, Village Dining Room, Community Room, Augsburg Lutheran Home, and to each other. Augsburg also has a Chapel where Lutheran services are offered every Sunday.
Residents are transported three times a week to area grocery stores and for other shopping trips. Residents also enjoy cultural programs and planned bus trips to various places of interest. Other activities are offered including exercise and fitness classes. Augsburg Lutheran Village has an active Resident Association.
The nursing staff of Augsburg Lutheran Home is available on a 24-hour basis for emergency service. Augsburg Lutheran Village residents are given priority admission to the Augsburg Lutheran Home Health Care Center and/or the Assisted Living Program, if the need arises.
Medical staff is available on a fee-for-service basis several days each week. Pharmacy services are also available when needed.
Assisted Living
Our Assisted Living program is designed for those in need of assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and medication management. This program provides the services necessary for those who can no longer live independently but who are not in need of long term care.
Three meals a day are provided in a private dining room reserved specifically for Assisted Living residents. Nursing services are available around the clock. Other services include personal laundry, linens, housekeeping, the use of common areas, and a recreational/activity program.
Continuing Augsburg’s over 100-year tradition of delivering excellent health care in a Christian environment, the Assisted Living program focuses on providing assistance to residents when needed while allowing them to continue enjoying a lifestyle fostering independence. Always at the forefront of care is the dedication of staff to the concept of individuality and preservation of dignity.
Long Term Care
Resident care is available on either a short or long term basis:
Intermediate Care
This level of care is available for residents who require assistance with various daily living skills. These residents may receive help with bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility, and/or feeding. The nursing staff administers all medications. They also communicate with physicians on the resident’s behalf. We accept residents who require tube feeding, insulin injections, and other injection therapy. Residents who demonstrate symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease or other related disorders are treated in a 18-bed unit designed to handle their illness appropriately.
Skilled Care
This level of care includes rehabilitative care (physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy) for stroke victims, those sustaining fractures, and people who need strength training following an acute illness. Residents requiring new tube feeding, diabetic care, and various IV treatments are also accepted. We also offer care for the terminally ill.
Augsburg Lutheran Home has a house physician on the premises four days a week and is on call seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
Augsburg Lutheran Home of Maryland, Inc. is licensed by the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and certified to accept Medicare/Medicaid.
